A majority of Americans got exhausted just thinking about the election. Millions were devastated by the results. There were lots of mixed feelings in days afterwards that still linger. People have expressed joy, anger, excitement, fear and sadness.
People are worried about the future of democracy in the country. Others are afraid they might be put into a concentration camp. Some entertainers have said they’re going to boycott red states while other celebs have announced they’re leaving the country.
Some people are still in mourning over the results. Others still have extreme anxiety and have sought therapy. Mental health bookings have jumped by 24%. Some people were calling therapists for emergency sessions. In some cases, therapist & clients were crying together. Some mental health professionals are using dog and pig therapy. Other people have chosen a different path to deal with their feelings by visiting a smash room.
There was a 125% increase in calls to crisis lines right after the election and the number continues to rise. Many therapists have seen their practice go into overdrive. Some sources have estimated there’ve been over 2,200 suicides because of the election.
We need to find a creative way to deal with our feelings. Taking our life is not the answer. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. It only takes a moment to make a bad decision. Part of finding a better way to deal with feelings of despair is to fact check. There’s been a lot of things said that just aren’t true. You have to do your own homework to verify what’s true and what’s not. We need to look at the big picture and not lose hope.
Do you believe there’s a Creator? It may not seem like it right now but He’s still in charge. Nothing comes as a surprise to him. There is hope – even in the darkest of times.
